Ready for the Wonderful new
Senior Infants
We have brand new flooring and gorgeous yellow chairs.
The room is set out in pods of 4 and one of 5.
Everybody has their own pencil and crayon pot.
The toys that we are using are all washable.
The songs are fun.
There are glue sticks and scissors for each boy.
The maths equipment is sorted into groups so it will be only used by the same pod each time.
The windows and doors will be open.
The books have your names written on them and are sorted into pods too.
P.E. will be Tuesday and Thursday.
There'll be lots of singing and distanced movement breaks.
The class has been empty for too long,
It's time for the boys to come back,
It's time for fun, friendship and learning (all in a safe environment, of course)
I'm really looking forward to getting to know my new Senior Infant class, I hear you're a fantastic bunch!
See you all on Monday at 9.15
Ms. Harte
MUM, we love you to pieces!
Art lesson from a very special person.
We have a very talented group of parents in the school who are very happy (and extremely brave) to share their talents. One such person is Tom's mum, Emer, who came in to us before Christmas and helped us make lovely clay tiles. She then took these tiles away and fired them in her kiln for us. Some tiles were made extra special when Tom's dog sat on them - these tiles now tell a great story!
Not scared away by our exuberance, Emer came back in to us to help and guide us through the painting of our tiles. We even added glitter (something Ms. Harte didn't know could be done). We were so lucky to have been able to do this and now have a lovely memory of the days.

Christmas 2019
A very naughty elf visited our class last Christmas. Boots wrapped up our Christmas tree, tied up our teddies, put underpants on their heads and swung out of the furniture!
Happily the boys were much better behaved.
They worked so hard on their Christmas play and were so grown-up, that they were rewarded with a PJ and hot chocolate DVD Day. Oh, and did we mention the warm buttery toast ...yummy!
But that wasn't all - we finished the year off with a Christmas clothes and fun games day.
Don't we look oh, so handsome in all our finery?

Printing
Have you ever wondered why our jumpers come home with paint all over them??????
Grandparents' Day 2020
On a chilly Thursday morning at the end of January, the boys in Senior Infants welcomed some VIPs into their classroom.
They had interviewed these special people, drawn or taken pictures of them, found out their favourite foods and then baked them. They added all these elements together to make their very first project in primary school.
Who were these people?
Grandparents!
The boys took great pride in showing their grandparents around their classroom - spending extra time looking at their projects and viewing their wonderful art-work. For various different reasons, some boys were unable to have their own grandparent there, This was very quickly remedied as they were 'short term adopted' by the grandparents who were there.
Nanas and Grandads poured drinks for their wee charges, listened to their stories, answered their questions and made sure they had enough to eat. There was such an air of caring and love in the room it was almost tangible.
To finish off the morning the boys sang 'The Ugly Duckling' and 'Yellow Submarine' for their grandparents.
It was a very special day for everyone involved, and hopefully, one that they will remember for a very long time.

Waterproof or Not?
We used syringes full of water to investigate whether different materials were waterproof or not.
Then, based on our findings, we designed footwear to wear out in the rain.
Thank goodness our tables weren't made out of paper!!!

Making Music
Every week, Ms. Murphy takes the boys for a drama class and Ms. Harte takes them for music. It's a fun time of song, exploration and lots of noise!
Next term, the teachers will swap subjects and the fun will continue....

Making Patterns
Not all of our maths is adding or writing numbers in copies - sometimes we get to make patterns, sort beads and sit on the table.
Book Fair
We went to the book fair, we looked at LOTS of books. We got comfortable and then three books were read to us (because we were such great listeners) We laughed at '10 Fat Sausages' and giggled at 'I Need a New Bum'!
Autumn Walk to Bushy Park
On a bright Autumnal morning we set out to Bushy Park for our nature walk. We were looking for signs of Autumn and we saw lots and lots of them - blackberries, fallen leaves of all different colours, webs, conker shells (but no conkers...) and lots more.
After lots of wonderful observations, the boys had a well earned play time in the playground
A squirrel even ran across the playground with a nut in it's mouth!!!! Brave squirrel!

Science Week.
We had a week of science just before our mid-term - we explored lots of different areas of Science:
Making butter and buttermilk out of cream (and eating it on biscuits)
Exploring static electricity
X-Rays and bones
Light and colour
Slopes and friction
Growing jellies - to name but a few...

HALLOWE'EN
What no tables????
What do you do in class when you're all dressed up? Play on the ground :-D
We paraded around the infant classrooms and showed off our wonderful costumes to each other, played circle games and sang spooky Hallowe'en songs with Ms. Murphy's class.
